Monetary donations

In this lineage, everything – accommodation, food, teachings, etc. – is available for free, thanks to the generosity of our supporters and a culture of "dāna". This culture of generosity helps to develop a mutually supportive relationship where lay people offer material support to the sangha, and monastics offer spiritual teachings and keep monasteries alive for the benefit of everyone. This nurtures a relationship of mutual trust, affection and respect.

When making a donation, you can designate it for a specific purpose. If none is specified, your donation will go towards the general running costs of the monastery.

Online donations

We will soon accept online donations via PayPal. For now, they can be made via the smartphone app Vipps; our number is 110436 ("Stiftelsen skogskloster")

Bank transfers

Please see this document for bank account details.

For residents in Norway

Tax-deductible donations

All donations will go to the religious association "Skogskloster buddhistsamfunn", a religious community that is supporting Lokuttara Vihara as well as sometimes organising other activities relating to Buddhism in Norway.

Membership

The Norwegian government gives financial support to religious organizations every year based on the amount of members that they have. The membership is completely free, but for each registered member, "Skogskloster buddhistsamfunn" receives NOK 1200 a year. This means that every member makes a contribution every year simply by being a member, without having to do anything. It is necessary to have a Norwegian social security number to become a member.

If you would like to support us in this way, please register at:

We also have paper copies of the necessary forms at the monastery, and we can help you to register if you would like some aid.

Note that you can only register with one organisation at a time; no organization will receive support if you are double-registered. You will need to withdraw your registration if you are already a member somewhere else This can be done by contacting the organization. We also have the necessary forms available at the monastery and can help you with this.
